STUDENTS DEEPEN SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS WITH
"WAY OF THE CHILD"
Rev. Evelyn Oliveira has
continued to offer spiritual direction and ministry to the students
in Metanoia's Young Leaders Program. This fall they began a
curriculum called "Way of the Child." Slides of the students
in the program are above and Rev. Evelyn's Reflection on this time
is below.
It has been so
inspiring to accompany the Young Leaders on a spiritual journey this
year. Through the use of The Way of The Child curriculum, the
Young Leaders are exploring spiritual disciplines to help them grow in
their understanding and their relational intimacy with God. Every week,
we gather for 50 minutes to explore our faith deeply, in a way that only
children can. I open up our time with scripture readings and a theme
for each day, but it is the children who explore those themes
individually in the different stations. What we adults have experienced
with the children, is that given guided time and space for reflection
and meditation, children are able to grasp matters of faith at the level
which is most meaningful for them. For several years, the Young Leaders
have heard stories from the Bible and have done activities around those
stories. This year, we are giving them the opportunity, guidance and
space to develop a relationship with God. They are taking this to heart
and it is beautiful to see. Last week, we learned about breath prayers
and how we can use them to pray continually. Students learned to say a
prayer inhaling and then end the sentence prayer with an exhale. I
will conclude with some of the prayers the children came up with:
Prince of Peace, stop the violence;
My rock, give me strength;
Healer, heal my cousin.
Thank you Jesus, for dying for people;
Merciful God, forgive everyone;
Faithful God, thank you for loving me;
Maker of Peace, stop the violence;
