METANOIA LEVERAGES $140,000 GRANT FOR LOWCOUNTRY FOOD BANK
Partnership will bring specialized job training and feed more children
(PRESS
RELEASE)
NORTH CHARLESTON, January 26--- In a time of economic struggle, two
local non-profits have joined together to provide new opportunities in
the Lowcountry communities they support. Metanoia CDC recently applied
for a SC Dept. of Commerce grant in partnership with the Lowcountry Food
Bank. Funds from the grant will provide equipment for a production
kitchen at the Food Bank’s new location on Azalea Drive. Metanoia
considers Lowcountry Food Bank to be one of our community’s leading
assets and views this partnership as a solid investment in the
community.
Through this unique collaboration and partnership, the Food Bank will be
able to feed more children in the Lowcountry. The Production Kitchen
will be used for training community residents in the culinary arts and
providing food for Kids’ Café programs across the coast of South
Carolina. Rev. Bill Stanfield, CEO of Metanoia recognizes the impact
this grant will have on the community, stating, “As one of a handful of
Certified Community Development Corporations in the state of South
Carolina we are eligible to apply for these funds that are geared to job
creation. Our mission at Metanoia is to find neighborhood assets and
invest in them and this was a great way to lure resources to our area,
create job and invest in the wonderful neighborhood asset we have with
the Lowcountry Food Bank.” Metanoia also wishes to thank the South
Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations who
originally got the SC Community Economic Development Fund approved and
funded with the SC Department of Commerce.
Metanoia Community Development Corporation is a movement of people
rooted in faith. We invest in neighborhood assets to build leaders,
establish quality housing and generate economic development. We are
pushing forward into new relationships with God and one another to
create strong communities.
Metanoia, serving the Chicora/Cherokee community of North Charleston,
was started by the SC Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and is now
supported by many organizations, local government and supporters.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
Metanoia's Young and Civic Leaders once again took part in the Martin Luther
King Jr. Parade in downtown Charleston this year. Students
decorated our float with information and crafts they had made about the
life of Dr. King. We are particularly grateful to David and Amy
Hill at Verdi Architecture who generously donated our float for the
second year in a row.
