Preparing Home Buyers:
Through a
partnership with the
Charleston Homeownership Resource Center,
Metanoia offers quarterly homeownership and credit counseling classes in
our community (see column to the right for our next class). These
classes give first time homebuyers the opportunity for down payment
assistance. Day long classes are held at St.
Matthew Baptist Church. Our average class attendance is over 30
people and several folks are usually approved for loans the day of the
class.
Beginning
in January 2008, Metanoia also began to provide intensive 17 week
financial literacy classes in partnership with the
Charleston Area Community
Development Corporation.
These classes meet for three hours a week and cover budgeting, credit
counseling and homebuyer education. They are offered for community
residents and others who need a more intensive financial literacy
curriculum to move toward buying their first home.
Finally, Metanoia also offers one on one
homeownership counseling for neighborhood residents and others interested in owning
their own home. For anyone willing to become a homeowner in our
community, Metanoia's Director of Housing Development will work with
them to boost their credit scores and work on
a budget that will allow them to purchase their own home.
| Wachovia's Phil Dumouchel speaks with students in
one of Metanoia's Homebuyer Education Classes. Metanoia hosts
classes quarterly to offer the class which introduces buyers to the
process of buying their own home. Metanoia then offers
intensive homebuyer counseling for those interested in buying homes
in Chicora/Cherokee. |
